What a difference a month makes. In the past 4 weeks, I’ve completely settled into my new apartment, taken my first midterm as a grad student, and partied about as much as I did during a typical year as an undergrad. Needless to say, this Mini Mix is the exact opposite of last month’s.
I’ve been meaning to make a good driving mix for quite some time now. And the songs on this mix need to be played loud. They could be the soundtrack to you and your friends’ drive into the city on the weekend, or the motivation you need to get some (home)work done.
Below is the track list. I realize a few of the songs are repeats from previous posts, but they were just too perfect to leave out. As always, I recommend listening to it in the order presented below. Stream or download the entire mix using the links below. Enjoy!
1. Built to Spill – Goin’ Against Your Mind2. Interpol – Evil3. The Tragically Hip – Escape Is At Hand For the Travellin’ Man4. Weezer – Say It Ain’t So5. My Morning Jacket – O Is the One That Is Real- 6. Ryan Adams & the Cardinals – Let It Ride
7. Belle and Sebastian – Another Sunny Day8. The Twilight Singers – Teenage Wristband9. Wolf Parade – I’ll Believe In Anything10. Silversun Pickups – Lazy Eye11. Tapes ‘n Tapes – Jakov’s Suite- Download entire mix

First of all, this is a long ass comment. I know it is. But you put a lot of work into these mixtapes so I thought I’d give you the most feedback I could. Second of all, enhanced podcast – Amazing. Its the only enhanced podcast I subscribe to, and I have to say that having chapters and individual album art is awesome. I know it must have taken more work, but I think its def worth it.
Enough of that, here’s what I think about the music:
Built to spill – what a great song. Very catchy and the drum-line is awesome, something I could tap my fingers against the steering wheel to. Nice.
Interpol – This one is something I have heard on the radio – one of those bands that I have been recommended but never gotten into after that whole “we’ve got 10,000 mattresses for you to sleep on, dream on” or whatever song. I think I butchered that lyric but you get the idea I hope. This is a cool song.
Tragically Hip – this song didn’t appeal to me as much – its a good song but it didn’t stick out.
Weezer – I’ll be honest, didn’t see this one coming. This song is awesome, poppy, and old – its a great classic driving song choice, but it opens the floodgates of good old music that can be poppy as possibilities for this mixtape. Wheres the Tom Petty? Where’s the Coldplay?
MMJ – Good song but i dunno – I just can’t seem to get into it.
Ryan Adams and the Cardinals – Amazing Song. Great choice. Great fit.
Belle and Sebastian – I havent given that album nearly enough air time – but now i’m going to. This song def has that driving beat.
Twightlight Singers – Great opening for a song. And then comes the noise. Too much going on in this song and note enough vocals. I get the relevance, but the song just didn’t do it for me.
Wolf Parade – Its Wolfparade – you can’t go wrong with them.
Lazy Eye – See Wolfparade
Tapes ‘n Tapes – I dunno about this song. Its got two chapters, and a weird bridge in the middle, with kinda chaotic reverb for no reason. Not sure.
Overall: Great podcast man. I’m really glad to see some older songs on here too – adds a bit of familiarity and comfort that is so key when driving long distances. Anyway, I really enjoyed this podcast all 4 or 5 times I’ve heard it so far. Keep em comin!
